What is the difference between PE protective film and PET protective film?
Time:2024-09-18 Read:102

There are significant differences between PE protective film and PET protective film in multiple aspects. The following is a detailed explanation of the differences between the two:

Material and physical properties

PE protective film: Its full name is Polyethylene, which is the simplest structured polymer organic compound made of polyethylene resin. PE protective film is relatively soft and has good extensibility, with an elongation rate ranging from 150% to 300%, which means it can adapt to surfaces of different shapes and curves.

PET protective film: full name is polyester film, made of polyester resin. PET protective film is relatively tough, has no extensibility, is not easily deformed, and has good hardness, therefore it has better wear resistance and scratch resistance.

Purpose and Applicable Scenarios

PE protective film: Due to its flexibility and good chemical resistance, it is widely used for surface protection of products in industries such as aluminum-plastic panels, nameplates, metal surfaces, plastic sheet surfaces, building decoration materials, polyester furniture, stone, stainless steel, automotive interiors, aluminum alloys, organic glass, electronics, home appliances, IT, etc. It can prevent dust pollution and scratches, and protect the surface smoothness of the product.

PET protective film: Due to its excellent physical and chemical properties, as well as dimensional stability and transparency, PET protective film is particularly suitable for high-precision and high demand scenarios, such as TV screens, laptop screens, PDA handheld computer screens, LCD screens, mobile phones, digital cameras and other electronic product screen protectors. PET protective film can also be applied in various fields such as scratch resistant protective film for electronic products, LCD touch screens, thin film windows, etc.

Viscosity and thickness

PE protective film: It has relatively weak adhesion and cannot form stable adhesion on the contact surface, but its thickness range is wide, usually between 0.03mm and 0.2mm, suitable for various universal application scenarios.

PET protective film: generally has strong adhesion and can form stable adhesion on the contact surface. Its thickness is relatively thin, usually between 0.012mm and 0.1mm, making it more suitable for high-precision application scenarios.

Cost and Environmental Protection

PE protective film: Due to the common and inexpensive raw material polyethylene, the production cost of PE protective film is relatively low.

PET protective film: Due to the high cost of raw material polyester resin, the production cost of PET protective film is relatively high. But both are environmentally friendly materials that can be recycled and reused.

In summary, there are significant differences between PE protective film and PET protective film in terms of material, physical properties, applications, adhesion and thickness, as well as cost. When selecting, the appropriate protective film should be chosen based on the specific application scenario and requirements.
